Baby mama trend: Nigerians react to development
Mix reactions have continued to trail the trend of enormous development of ‘baby mama’ among Nigerians.
Baby mama as the name implies is a mother of one or more, who is not legally married to the father of her kids’.
This act which is becoming a norm among celebrities and other Nigerians has ‘sparked’ reactions from Nigerians who spoke with this reporter.
While some were either neutral or in support of the act, others kicked against it, tagging it an immoral act which is against the plan of God.
Mr. Adedeji Olatubosun, a banker with a new generation bank, applauded the baby mama trend, expressing that “It is the best thing that can happen to every man in the world.
“For me, I see no reason two people should come together to be husband and wife in order to have children. I don’t think one must get married before considering having kids.
“There are too many issues involved in being married. I will always go for the baby mama option. It is less stressful,” He said.
Not bothered about the issue, a local mechanic, Emeka Kingsley said, “It is a free world; anyone can do what they like. Instead of staying all your life without a wife, the best option is to have a child of yours.”
However, a Pastor who pleaded anonymity kicked against the act completely, revealing the effects it has on such children.
“The baby mama trend is something that has been in existence for a while now, but it is beginning to gain grounds in modern society which is why I am against it. No immoral act should be supported in a decent society.
“Parents should teach their children the right way of life. Having children out of wedlock or through multiple partners has its effects on children.
“It is not God’s plan to have children or commit adultery before marriage.
“Children should be the blessing a couple receive from God after being joined in holy matrimony,” he avowed.
A residence of Abuja, Charles Odili, said the baby mama trend is here to stay due to the quality of women available in the society.
“I am neutral about it, because, going by the quality of women, it is difficult to even manage a girlfriend, let alone a wife. You can want a child and not a wife. I believe it is a welcome development for those who want it or already in it.
“I believed if there is a financial stability to take care of a child, then it is fine.”
However, a housewife, who gave her name as Agatha Olofu condemned the act and advised youths to abstain from any immoral act which will backfire in future.
“I totally condemn it. My children dare not make such mistake. It is immoral and reduces the value of women in the eyes of men.
“No child is meant to grow up without the complete support of both parents. It usually has a negative side effect on the kids,” She said.
